The Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization of Manitoba (IRCOM) is looking for Canadian families to help newcomer families get off to a good start this summer.The family-to-family program pairs newcomer families with Canadian families to get together three or four times throughout the summer for activities such as a barbecue or picnic, going to The Forks, the beach or a summer event.

Calgary Herald – Skilled Worker Plan Seen as “Critical”
Federal Immigration Minister Jason Kenney was recently in Calgary to further outline his plan to streamline applications, create a vetted pool of foreign workers for businesses to search from and introduce a skilled tradespeople immigration stream. At a breakfast speech to the Canadian Home Builders’ Association — Alberta, Kenney outlined “transformational changes” to align Canada’s immigration programs with growing labour shortages in a variety of industries.

Retaining young people and newcomers has long been a provincial priority, so Mr. Morley, as chief economist of Greater Halifax’s economic development agency, decided to create networks dedicated to helping immigrants find good jobs in their field. The initial plan three years ago was to recruit 50 employers for a program that has immigrants meet over coffee with professionals so they can ask questions and come away with the names of three other people they can speak with. Twice that number answered the call, and now 360 well-connected volunteers take part.
