Radio-Canada – La Banque Royale remplace des employés canadiens par des étrangers
Des douzaines d’employés de la Banque Royale du Canada (RBC) seront remplacés fin avril par des travailleurs temporaires venus d’Inde, selon une enquête du réseau anglais de Radio-Canada. Les nouveaux salariés s’occuperont, à Toronto, de domaines informatiques de la division RBC des services aux investisseurs qui gère les fonds de clients institutionnels. Ils sont dépêchés au pays par une multinationale de sous-traitance indienne, iGATE, qui a obtenu les visas des employés par le biais du Programme des travailleurs étrangers temporaires (PTET). D’après une porte-parole de la Banque Royale, Rina Cortese, plusieurs salariés indiens travailleront à Toronto jusqu’en 2015. Le service dont ils s’occupent sera ensuite transféré dans un autre pays, mais certains employés pourraient rester indéfiniment au Canada.
CBC – RBC Replaces Canadian Staff with Foreign Workers
Dozens of employees at Canada’s largest bank are losing their jobs to temporary foreign workers, who are in Canada to take over the work of their department. […]The foreign workers who are taking over the RBC work in Toronto are employed by a multinational outsourcing firm from India – iGATE Corp. – which has a contract with the bank to provide IT services. The two companies have been working closely since 2005. There is an “RBC Offshore Development Centre” in the iGATE facility in Bangalore. […] RBC spokesperson Rina Cortese told Go Public several foreign workers from iGATE will be working in the bank’s Toronto offices until 2015. By then, she said, most of the work will be transferred abroad, but a few of the foreigners will remain indefinitely.
Globe and Mail – New Immigration Guide Issues Stern Warnings Against “Barbaric” Practices
Newcomers to Canada are being bluntly told in a revised federal guidebook for immigrants that polygamy and forced marriages are illegal in this country The 146-page document, which also addresses human trafficking and gender-based violence, takes pains to spell out the country’s marriage customs. [… Jason Kenney] referred to the guide’s statements that female genital mutilation and “so-called honour-based crimes” are “barbaric” and will not be tolerated, and the sections condemning forced marriages and polygamy. […] The guidebook also hints at key Conservative messages in sections on the Queen and the military, although Mr. Kenney said the material was appropriate in explaining important Canadian institutions.
Radio-Canada – Des travailleurs immigrants réclament plus de protection
Des organismes représentant des travailleurs immigrants québécois ont lancé vendredi une pétition pour réclamer une meilleure protection sociale, souhaitant ainsi prévenir la précarité d’emploi. Ils affirment que certaines agences de placement contournent le Code du travail et ne donnent pas tous les avantages auxquels les travailleurs immigrants ont droit. Plusieurs travailleurs auraient toutefois peur de dénoncer ces situations, explique Noé Arteaga, membre du Centre des travailleurs et travailleuses immigrants (CTI), qui a lancé la campagne. « Des fois, l’agence de placement ne cotise pas avec la CSST [Commission de la santé et de la sécurité au travail] ou avec le chômage. Les travailleurs sont donc à sa merci », dénonce l’activiste.
Toronto Star – Legal Aid Ontario Cutbacks Could Leave Desperate Refugees Without Lawyers at Hearings
Most refugees coming from countries Ottawa has deemed “safe” will no longer be entitled to free legal representation at their hearings, under a proposal put forward by Legal Aid Ontario. Refugee lawyers are up in arms over the plan, saying it will jeopardize the outcome for those who need proper legal advice the most. The plan is to stop paying lawyers to prepare and appear at asylum hearings for refugees from the 35 designated “safe” countries, who now face expedited processing and removal. Last fall, Legal Aid Ontario implemented other cutbacks by limiting the hours it will cover for lawyers to research and prepare refugee appeals at the federal court.

Un nouveau guide plus complet et un nouvel outil Web destinés à aider les nouveaux arrivants à s’installer et à s’intégrer au Canada ont été dévoilés aujourd’hui par le ministre de la Citoyenneté, de l’Immigration et du Multiculturalisme, Jason Kenney. La nouvelle publication vedette de CIC, Bienvenue au Canada, se veut le guide officiel pour aider les immigrants à se préparer à venir au Canada et à s’y retrouver au cours de leurs premiers mois ici. Au contenu deux fois plus long que son édition précédente, le nouveau guide est le résultat de recherches universitaires, de consultations auprès de plusieurs partenaires fédéraux et d’experts dans le domaine de l’intégration, et il a été examiné par de nouveaux arrivants. Pour la première fois, le guide Bienvenue au Canada comprend des exemples d’immigrants au Canada qui ont bien réussi leur intégration.
