The Times of India – Enhanced Global Migration Governance Needed
As the pressure of global migration increases with every passing year, a United Nations expert has underlined the need for enhanced governance of migration flows. He has suggested the setting up of a unified rights-based international body to safeguard the condition of international migrants. An estimated 215 million persons live outside their country of birth according to the World Bank, with around 700 million moving within their countries every year. Remittance flows to developing countries were pegged at $ 401 billion in 2012, up by 5.3% from the previous year. […] While the need to regulate migration conditions is evident, it is unclear whether supra-national agencies like the one being suggested can actually make a difference. After all most UN bodies are recommendatory in function and cannot impose their provisions on sovereign states.

Des membres de la diaspora haïtienne du Québec ont lancé une pétition à Montréal contre la décision de la Cour constitutionnelle dominicaine de retirer la nationalité à des centaines de milliers d’immigrés notamment plus de 250.000 descendants d’Haïtiens, qui deviennent ainsi apatrides. La sentence de la Cour constitutionnelle de la République Dominicaine a provoqué une vague d’indignation et continue de susciter des réactions négatives. Une pétition est présentement lancée pour dénoncer cette situation.
The Guardian – Italian Navy Rescues More than 700 Migrants off Coast of Sicily
More than 700 migrants have been rescued by the Italian navy and coastguard in waters near Sicily, as boats continue to arrive in a wave that has not relented despite the deaths of hundreds of people in the Mediterranean this month. Five boats packed with 705 migrants, some of them children, had been calling for help from the Italian authorities since Thursday evening, the coastguard said. The rescues came as EU leaders, in Brussels at a summit dominated by the NSA spying row, were criticised by human rights groups for failing to take immediate and concrete action to tackle the crisis. […]But discussion of the “concrete changes” called for by organisations such as Human Rights Watch was postponed until a summit in December, when a new migration taskforce will report back.

Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander today personally delivered the one millionth 10-year ePassport to Mark Walker of Mississauga, Ontario. “The 10-year ePassport is the ultimate symbol of citizenship and has proven to be a huge success with Canadians,” said Alexander. “This week at citizenship ceremonies from coast-to-coast many new Canadians are feeling the pride of citizenship and becoming eligible for the Canadian passport.” The new 10-year ePassport was launched on July 1. Our government projects we will issue more than 5.2 million passports this fiscal year alone.

On le fait déjà, puis on va accentuer. » Dans la capitale, les efforts de recrutement passent surtout par l’organisme Québec international (QI), qui mène des opérations ciblées de recrutement à l’étranger.
