Selon le nouveau volet d’un sondage CROP-Radio-Canada, 53 % des Québécois disent craindre l’intégrisme musulman dans la province, un chiffre qui fait sursauter des membres de la communauté musulmane de l’Outaouais. L’une des membres du conseil d’administration du Centre islamique de l’Outaouais, Carole Audette, se sent attaquée par ces résultats, qui s’expliquent par des préjugés selon elle. « Nous aussi, on est contre l’intégrisme. Mais l’intégrisme, il existe dans toutes les religions, dans le non-religieux aussi. Le président des États-Unis Barack Obama a chargé jeudi son administration de réfléchir à la façon de conduire les expulsions de sans-papiers «avec plus d’humanité». La semaine dernière, M. Obama avait mis le très grand nombre d’expulsions de clandestins sur le compte du Congrès, où la grande réforme de l’immigration promise par le président pendant ses campagnes de 2008 et 2012 est toujours en souffrance. Jeudi, Barack Obama a dit à des élus d’origine hispanique qu’il avait chargé son secrétaire à la Sécurité intérieure Jeh Johnson de passer en revue les pratiques actuelles du ministère afin d’étudier comment les expulsions pourraient être menées «avec plus d’humanité».

Plus de 600 réfugiés nord-coréens, qui s’étaient installés en Corée du Sud et ont tenté de trouver refuge au Canada, sont sur le point d’être expulsés, a fait savoir ce jeudi une source. Les autorités canadiennes les ont accusés de s’être fait passer pour des personnes qui se sont juste enfuies de la nation communiste, a dit la source du milieu politique sud-coréen. En fait, ils se sont réfugiés au Sud et ont obtenu la nationalité là-bas, selon la source, qui est venue à Washington après avoir visité le Canada. «Les personnes ayant la nationalité sud-coréenne, qui se sont enfuies de la Corée du Nord, ont déposé des demandes pour obtenir un statut de réfugié auprès du gouvernement canadien. Mais leurs demandes ont été rejetées et ils seront expulsés», a déclaré la source.
The Tyee – Province Steps Up To Fund Refugee Mental Health Services
For refugees, starting over just got easier as the provincial government has promised settlement service agencies in British Columbia it will pick up funding for refugee mental health services that was cut by the feds in January. Without federal funding the agencies would have been unable to continue providing help and support for traumatized refugee claimants by the end of March, The Tyee first reported last month. ISS will redistribute the funding between itself and Vancouver Association for Survivors of Torture (VAST), the largest organization in B.C. providing refugee mental health services. Both organizations are currently in discussions to work out the details. VAST lost 75 per cent, or about $250,000, of their budget when the feds cut funding. Executive director Dylan Mazur described the loss as a possible “mental health crisis” as refugees would have nowhere to go if VAST was forced to close its doors.
Star Phoenix – Obama Orders Review of US Deportation Practices To See If Enforcement Can Be More Humane
President Barack Obama has ordered a review of U.S. deportation practices to see whether immigration enforcement can be more humane, the White House said Thursday. In a meeting with Latino lawmakers, Obama said he was deeply concerned about the pain that families feel when they are separated because of a broken U.S. immigration system. He told the lawmakers he’s asking Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson to perform an inventory of current practices “to see how it can conduct enforcement more humanely within the confines of the law,” the White House said in a statement. The announcement comes as immigrant rights activists, frustrated by the lack of progress in Congress, have been pressuring Obama to halt all deportations. Obama had said he doesn’t have the power to take that step unilaterally, although he has previously moved to ease deportations for some children brought into the U.S. illegally.
Citizenship and Immigration Canada News Release – Don’t Become a Victim of Immigration Fraud
Canada’s Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander today encouraged potential newcomers to use authorized immigration representatives to avoid becoming victims of fraud. March is Fraud Prevention Month and this year Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has partnered with the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) and the Federation of Law Societies of Canada (FLSC) to promote awareness of authorized immigration representatives and what services they can provide. […] Unscrupulous and unauthorized representatives weaken Canada’s immigration system, cost taxpayers money, and slow down the processing of valid applications. Under Canadian law, only authorized immigration representatives can charge a fee to help someone apply for a visa to come to Canada. If a newcomer uses an unauthorized representative, their application may be refused and they could risk becoming victims of fraud.
