La Passerelle I.D.É. – Communiqué – Compétences Culturelles, un outil essentiel pour s’intégrer ici!
Ce samedi 26 avril 2014, La Passerelle-IDÉ a tenu un atelier de formation en Compétences Culturelles à Toronto animé par M. Wesley Romulus, Maître Formateur. Très apprécié des participants, le programme de formation en Compétences Culturelles est l’un des programmes phares de La Passerelle-I.D.É, déclaré comme pratique exemplaire par le Gouvernement de l’Ontario et Citoyenneté et Immigration Canada. Plus de 77% des participants ont pu trouver un emploi grâce à la formation. Immigrants ou nouveaux arrivants, étudiants, chercheurs d’emploi ou professionnels, les enseignements reçus ne laissent aucun participant indifférent. Plus qu’une simple formation, les programmes de Compétences Culturelles offrent un lieu de partages et d’échanges entre les participants, où ils peuvent exprimer leurs désirs et leurs aspirations les plus profonds tout en apprenant et en recevant des outils indispensables à la réussite de leur intégration dans la société canadienne.
Ottawa Citizen – Citizen Should Encourage Citizenship
Bill C-24, the “Strengthening Canadian Citizenship Act,” deserves as much scrutiny as the “Fair Elections Act.” The bill would increase the period of time a person would need to stay in Canada before applying for citizenship. Permanent residents will have to be physically present in Canada for four years out of six years before applying. Currently we require three years of residence in four years before applying. Applicants who have been workers, students or refugees would no longer get partial credit for their time in Canada before becoming permanent residents. The physical presence requirement removes the discretion that currently allows citizenship judges to grant citizenship when applicants may be short of the required days of residence but when their lives are centralized in Canada. […] Studies of European Union and OECD countries concluded that host-country nationality is generally associated with better labour market outcomes. Naturalized immigrants enjoy substantially better outcomes including higher employment probability, better occupational status, access to the public sector, and higher wages.
Our Windsor – Police Still Investigating Anti-Immigration Flyers
Peel police say the case is not closed on the controversial Brampton flyer that has been widely condemned as racist. Sgt. Matt Small, supervising officer in the Peel Regional Police Public Information and Media Relations department, said this morning reports from his office yesterday were premature in indicating investigations into circulation of the flyer had concluded and charges would not be laid. […] Investigators are waiting to hear “whether or not it would be classified as a hate crime,” Small explained. The flyer, entitled The Changing Face of Brampton, shows a group photograph of Caucasians juxtaposed against a photograph of a South Asian crowd— many wearing turbans. “From this…to this,” the tagline reads. “Is this really what you want?” Readers are directed to the website for Immigration Watch Canada— a Vancouver-based organization that believes the country’s current immigration policy is turning Canada’s “mainstream” population into a minority.
CTV News – It’s Kenney vs. Rae on Twitter as Tempers Flare Over TFW Program
Employment Minister Jason Kenney took Bob Rae to task over Twitter Wednesday, after the former Liberal MP weighed in on the controversy over the Conservatives’ Temporary Foreign Workers Program by saying it is rooted in an ‘anti-immigration’ bias. […]The comment ignited a flurry of debate over Twitter, but it was Employment Minister Jason Kenney who was most vocal, firing off a series of tweets — 18 in total — directed at Rae. Kenney touted the Conservatives as the “most pro-immigration” government in modern Canadian history, while lambasting the Liberals’ record on the file.
La Presse – Les travailleurs étrangers soulèvent les passions à Ottawa
Le controversé programme fédéral des travailleurs étrangers a été attaqué sans répit, mardi, alors que les députés débattent d’une motion du Nouveau Parti démocratique (NPD) qui souhaite un moratoire sur l’embauche dans les emplois peu spécialisés et une enquête du vérificateur général. Selon le NPD, le programme qui permet aux employeurs d’ici d’engager des travailleurs étrangers temporaires a généré une multitude d’abus qui ont mené au congédiement de travailleurs canadiens. Les néo-démocrates estiment que le programme, nécessaire mais très mal géré par les conservateurs, est aussi responsable de la baisse des salaires et de l’exploitation de travailleurs étrangers.
Radio Canada International – Gel des embauches de travailleurs étrangers en restauration: Le Labrador se dit pénalisé
Un couple d’hôteliers et restaurateurs du Labrador affirment subir les contrecoups des mauvais agissements d’autres employeurs au Canada et ajoutent qu’ils devront sans doute se résoudre à temporairement fermer boutique s’ils n’arrivent pas à embaucher des travailleurs étrangers. Le gouvernement fédéral canadien a imposé un moratoire au programme des travailleurs étrangers temporaires dans l’industrie de la restauration et des services alimentaires de la semaine dernière. Ce moratoire faisait suite à des allégations de mauvais traitements qu’auraient subis des travailleurs étrangers en poste dans cette industrie. Il est question ici de très longues heures de travail, de salaires non verse ou retenus, de conditions de logement insalubres etc. À Happy Valley-Goose Bay au Labrador, Lloyd et Judy Hillier sont les partons de l’Hotel North et du restaurant Jungle Jim’s. Ils affirment être constamment confrontés à un manque chronique de personnel.
