Quels sont les préalables pour travailler au Québec? Avant même d’oeuvrer ici, un travailleur étranger doit obtenir un permis de travail du Québec, explique Nadine Landry, avocate spécialisée en mobilité de la main-d’oeuvre et de l’immigration économique au cabinet Lavery. Pour mettre la main sur ce permis, il faut obtenir deux documents : un avis relatif au marché du travail d’Emploi et Développement social Canada et un certificat d’acceptation du Québec, émis par le ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l’Inclusion du Québec.
Radio-Canada – La Ville d’Ottawa veut mieux intégrer les immigrants
Le Partenariat local pour l’immigration d’Ottawa et la Ville d’Ottawa comptent profiter de la deuxième Semaine d’accueil à Ottawa afin d’encourager l’intégration des immigrants dans leur nouvelle communauté. Le maire Jim Watson a profité du lancement officiel de la semaine, ce matin, pour rappeler que l’objectif de l’événement est de créer non seulement des liens entre les immigrants, mais aussi entre les nouveaux arrivants et leur communauté d’accueil. « Ils vont contribuer à notre économie et créer des emplois, et ça, c’est une priorité pour notre conseil », a-t-il déclaré. Les immigrants représentent environ 20 % des citoyens d’Ottawa.

La Journée mondiale du réfugié est devenue une tradition depuis 2001 dans une centaine de pays. L’événement permet d’attirer l’attention sur le sort des millions de réfugiés à travers le monde. Selon le dernier rapport du HCR, cette année, le nombre de réfugiés, de demandeurs d’asile et de personnes déplacées à l’intérieur de leur pays à travers le monde a dépassé les 50 millions de personnes pour la première fois depuis la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Depuis la seconde guerre mondiale, le Canada a accueilli plus d’un million de réfugiés et depuis le lancement de son Programme de parrainage privé de réfugiés, des Canadiens ont accueilli plus de 250 mille réfugiés. À Montréal, l’édition 2014 tenue le 21 juin a été parrainée par Rivka Augenfeld, une militante de longue date des droits des réfugiés.

More than 75 countries have outlawed homosexuality and at least five countries have laws that allow homosexual acts to be punished by death. Because of the physical and emotional abuse that some people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) receive from their communities – coupled with the ongoing threat to their well-being – a number have fled to Canada in search of a safe haven. In a series of photographs, Matthew Sherwood captures the lives, stories and struggles that some members of the LGBTQ community have faced and the legal process they endure before being granted asylum in Canada.

A total of only 71 North Koreans won the recognition as refugees outside of North Korea in 2013, compared with the corresponding figure of 341 in 2012, the Washington-based Voice of America (VOA) reported, citing data from UNHCR, the United Nations’ refugee agency. […] The latest trend came as foreign countries tightened their regulation in granting refugee status to North Korean defectors, the radio report said. […] More than 600 North Korean defectors were reportedly on the verge of being deported from Canada after being found that they have applied for refugee status from the Canadian government following their initial settlement in South Korea.

Progressive Conservative leadership candidate Thomas Lukaszuk castigated the federal government Saturday for making changes to the Temporary Foreign Workers program that are “punitive” to Western Canada. Speaking in Grande Prairie at a leadership debate, the former labour minister said if he is elected party leader and premier, he will fight to win Albertans provincial control over immigration, similar to that enjoyed by Quebeckers. […] Alberta has the highest per-capita use of the temporary foreign workers program, with almost 85,000 workers in the province, and the change is expected to dramatically affect the restaurant and hotel businesses. Many other businesses, from cattle farms to seniors home care providers, will also be affected.
